Digging Into the Data

How many times have you held onto a piece of information—be it an owner’s manual, a receipt or a brochure—and not been able to find the asset when the perfect moment to reference it comes up? I know that I’ve certainly been guilty of this.

Data is quickly becoming an organization’s most valuable asset. But mountains of data are virtually useless to business operations without an efficient means to store and analyze it. Fortunately, in-memory ERP systems like SAP HANA help ease that process.

In “Takeaways From Businesses Running SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems,” IBMer Asim Khan shares five lessons learned from helping more than 2,000 IBM Power Systems* clients migrate to SAP HANA. And in “Improve Business Operations With SAP HANA ,” we examine how four organizations—German retailer Würth Group, Swiss baked-goods provider Aryzta, Singapore-based commercial real estate company UOL Group and the Danish Ministry of Defence—improved their operations with SAP HANA on IBM Power Systems. Learn more about how IBM and SAP have collaborated to help clients become innovators in their industries in “Driving Client-Focused Innovation .”

In this month’s Ask the Expert column, IBM i mainstay Charles Guarino details the process to start speaking at user groups and conferences. Also in this month’s Techbits section, Ed Batewell, IBM executive client technical architect, explains how your data center can make or break your organization’s artificial intelligence efforts. Learn more in “Your Data Center can Make or Break AI Efforts.”

Elsewhere in this month’s issue, we examine IBM Research’s five predictions for how the global food supply chain will change in the next five years. Read “IBM Research is Revamping the Global Food Supply Chain” to learn more about the sweeping advancements from seed to table.

Innovation is all around us. Read this month’s issue to learn how Power Systems clients are using SAP HANA to expand how their organizations put data to work.
