A Solid Investment

The TS7680 ProtecTIER Deduplication Gateway for System z offers high-performance inline deduplication, highly available two-node clustering and scalability to store up to 25 petabytes of tape data on high-speed disk capacity per system. It offers the capability to customize configurations for each client to optimize performance, capacity and/or specific disk storage needs. The TS7680 supports z/OS* v1R9 and above.

Acquisition can be 50 to 80 percent lower than standard virtual tape library solutions, which may help lower total cost of ownership. The investment is secure; IBM continues to invest in deduplication technology. “Every other quarter, we’ve been making improvements to the ProtecTIER solution,” Nemechek says. “It’s getting better all the time.”

Data deduplication is no fad. It has proven its place in data-intensive environments. “I think it will become a standard technology in every mainframe data center,” Nemechek says.
