Secure Sharing in the Cloud

IBM cloud

On Black Friday, when the mobile phone I'd been looking at went on sale, I upgraded to a new device. With this update, I connected my phone to the cloud for automatic backups. Using the cloud allows me to do so many things. I'm able to save high-resolution images taken with my phone and view them from other devices. I can also securely plan vacation details for access by travel partners and family members. And my husband and I can manage a shared grocery list, adding to or checking off from the list in real time while we shop.

While convenience and knowing my storage isn't being maxed out are great benefits, security is always in the back of my mind. What if I have the settings wrong, or worse, if the cloud provider has a data breach? Those are among the reasons IBM has addressed enterprise client cloud security concerns with the recent announcement of IBM Cloud Private and enhanced security capabilities with IBM z14*.

IBM Cloud Private is an all-in-one solution with built-in IBM middleware, developer tools and services. With IBM Z*, clients can receive the benefits of cloud and the mainframe together. Read more in the cover story (Building on the Future). In the feature (Securing the Cloud) , learn how the z14 system provides organizations with the tools to improve cloud security.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) goes into effect May 25. To help organizations prepare, IBM offers the IBM Security GDPR Framework to achieve GDPR readiness from a privacy- and security-based approach. Read about the regulation and framework in the Tech Showcase (The Clock's Ticking).

Also inside, learn how ICU IT Services uses Linux* to expand its market base in the case study (A Proof of Concept) . And read about how IBM Z is the right choice across various industries (Solutions and Support). This issue's Hot Topics article (Go With the Flow) explains how to access the z/OS* V2.3 migration content, now updated to a workflow.

As my own workflow and many of these articles illustrate, cloud and security are now more important and connected than ever. IBM is offering options to keep information and processes worthy of the cloud and mainframe secure.
