A Perfect Game

The United States Bowling Congress strikes it big by virtualizing with BladeCenter

Jim Oberholtzer, VP of technology for the United States Bowling Congress, says it’s easy to set up its portable data center at tournament sites.

A Perfect Game

For true bowlers, the USBC is an indispensable part of their game. It’s responsible for so many leagues, tournaments and players that it requires a robust IT infrastructure. Without it, that single source of truth contained in the DB2 on i database wouldn’t exist—and leagues could come to a quick, quiet end.

That’s why the USBC decided to look not just at simple server upgrades, but an entirely rearchitected IT environment. This has let the organization ensure operational resiliency, data integrity and lower costs. And this applies to not only its permanent data center, but also its roving data center—all with the goal of making sure bowlers get the most out of their game.

As Oberholtzer explains, “Everything we do drives bowlers’ experience and allows them to have a good time while they play and compete and enjoy everything that goes along with the sport of bowling.”
