Java on IBM i Security Updates

May 14, 2015

We all know that security vulnerabilities seem constant and ensuring you have the correct level of software to eliminate those vulnerabilities is very important.

The IBM Technology for Java JVM is a common code base that runs on IBM i, so if updates are made to that code base, you need to ensure you get those same updates on your i.

But how do you know what Java vulnerabilities may affect IBM i? And how do you know what PTFs or fixes you may need to acquire and apply to ensure you have a secure system?

IBM has recently made this a little easier for you.

There is a new page on the IBM i developerWorks site that provides information on Java security updates. You can find the various Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) listed, with information about the Java service release and fix pack that addresses the issue and the IBM i Java PTF group level that includes that fix for the supported IBM i releases.

Next time you wonder if a particular CVE affects IBM i and whether IBM has a fix available, this web page gives you one more source of information to help you out.
