Don’t Get Left Behind—Grow Your Skills at IBM Systems TechU

Have you heard about IBM Systems TechU? TechU stands for Technical University, and has become a key technical training conference for IBM clients and partners. IBM Systems Lab Services delivers more than a dozen TechU events in multiple countries throughout the year. Each TechU offers skill-building in various areas, from traditional IBM Systems capabilities to cutting-edge technologies, and explores how to bring these two worlds together. Technology is changing rapidly, and your skills  need to keep up so you don’t get left behind.
Learn via Lectures and Labs led by Technical Leaders
Unlike other IT conferences, TechU events are held in a single venue. You won’t get lost in the crowd! Lectures and labs are led by IBM and business partner technical experts, and cover a wide spectrum of topics across IBM Power Systems, Storage and IBM Z. Topics include emerging open-source technologies, software-defined infrastructure capabilities to optimize storage solutions, multicloud capabilities, containers, artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing. You can also complete Power Systems certification exams at the conference to grow your resume and career.
Give Your Feedback to Influence Product Development
Networking is another key TechU benefit. The relaxed, single venue setting makes it easy to meet clients, business partners and IBMers from various industries and job roles. For me personally, this is a key value of the event as I solicit both input for future TechU sessions as well as product feedback. As one of the IBM Power Systems Software Offering Managers, this feedback is critical as we develop the strategy and future roadmaps for our portfolios such as AIX. Plus, I enjoy hearing from our clients and business partners about recent enhancements and how they are using our platform.
So from my perspective, TechU is a perfect way to learn about trends and directions, technical details, new products and enhancements to our huge portfolio of offerings. Best of all, you can influence their roadmap!
I have several TechU conferences on my schedule this year, two of which are coming up very soon:

IBM Systems Technical University in Dubai
Featuring IBM Power Systems and IBM Storage
Date:April 15-18, 2019
Location: Dubai
IBM Systems Technical University in Atlanta
Featuring IBM Power Systems, IBM Storage and IBM Z
Date:April 29-May 3, 2019
Location: Hyatt Regency Atlanta
I’m presenting several sessions at each TechU that might interest you:
  • AIX Trends and Directions and the Power Systems Software Stack—I’ll discuss the strategy and roadmap, recent AIX developments, Power Systems software enhancements, as well as AIX modernization topics.
  • AIX Live Update, AIX and Kubernetes, and AIX on Nutanix—These deep dive session are (co-)presented with development architects from the IBM Austin development lab.
  • Power Systems Security- Protect IT Infrastructure at all Layers—This lecture outlineshow every level of the Power Systems stack addresses security—bottom to top—from the chip of the smallest server to your scalable cloud environment.
  • Enhancing Security with Multi-Factor Authentication on Power Systems—Learn how to deploy multi-factor authentication in a convenient and flexible way.
  • Simplify Management of Security Compliance with PowerSC—Discover how leveraging features such as compliance automation, file integrity monitoring, malware intrusion prevention, reporting, and more can simplify managing security compliance. This session includes a demo to not only talk about, but show how the PowerSC web UI can significantly simplify management of security and compliance.
  • Client Experience: Lessons Learned—In Atlanta, one of our clients will run several sessions on how to set up and get started with PowerSC. These sessions were offered at our October 2018 TechU with great success. These client-led sessions are always very popular because I think there is a lot more credibility to hear about benefits and potential hiccups from those actually using it in production.
