Services Blueprint 2013

Share |

Computing is IBM’s approach to IT innovation in an information-centric era. It helps IT leaders seize the opportunities of a smarter planet by thinking differently about the way their organizations can unleash innovation through the cloud, unlock the power of data, and safeguard the security of critical information and business processes.

Lab Services and Training delivers Smarter Computing through innovative products and solutions and our dedicated lab-based services and technical training teams. This edition of Services Blueprint magazine will guide you through a sample of our offerings and show you how our services help clients adopt emerging technologies and accelerate project time-to-value. Since building and maintaining skills is paramount to success, discover the benefits of participating in technical events and IBM’s training business, which has bolstered delivery of more courses via self-paced and instructor-led online formats.

A successful client is open to change and consultative advice. In this issue of Services Blueprint, learn how Lab Services Executive Consulting encourages success through executive relationships, change-agent partnerships and infrastructure optimization services. We support and provide advice around new and emerging IBM technologies such as cloud, business analytics and IBM PureSystems* servers. As a world-class consulting service dedicated to helping clients meet their needs, our strategy is to deepen integration of IT within the business and accelerate advances in infrastructure optimization.

When it comes to taming ever-growing mountains of data, analytics and big data enable clients to be more efficient; to be smarter. On the downside, backup administrators are tasked to process more and more data on a regular, often nightly, basis. One solution that can help is deduplication, a somewhat new technology that lets clients store more data on spinning disk (versus physical tape) for faster restores and more streamlined disaster recovery. IBM offers two deduplication solutions, both detailed in an article in this issue.

Analytics are not a one-size-fits-all game. No single system can run every analytical workload in an optimal fashion, meaning a mix of different systems and storage types may be required to address different problem spaces. This issue of Services Blueprint also examines how different types of analytical workloads use infrastructure.

To learn more about the tools and technologies that drive IBM’s approach to Smarter Computing, join us at one of our worldwide events where you’ll find in-depth education, get to put your hands on new technologies in lab settings and interface with technical leaders. Browse the full schedule for U.S. and global events at ibm.com/systems/conferenceseries. A variety of events are also planned across Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Details will be available shortly, so check our Web pages for updates in the coming months. The following is a just a sample of upcoming events to consider:

  • With recent announcements from both the Power Systems* and System z* brands, it’s time to gear up for the co-located IBM Power Systems and System z Technical Symposium, which will be held May 8-10 in New Orleans. The expanded agenda includes big data and analytics, cloud technologies and PureSystems. Visit ibm.com/training/us/symposium/powerandsystemz.
